Goal Setting

Goal Setting

How often do you set goals? How often do you revisit your list?

We all know that setting goals is important, but we often don’t realize how important they are as we continue to move through life.

Goal setting does not have to be boring. There are many benefits and advantages to having a set of goals to work towards.

Setting goals helps trigger new behaviours, helps guides your focus and helps you sustain that momentum in life.

Goals also help align your focus and promote a sense of self-mastery. In the end, you can’t manage what you don’t measure, and you can’t improve upon something that you don’t properly manage. Setting goals can help you do all of that and more.

In this article, we will review the importance and value of goal setting as well as the many benefits.

We will also look at how goal setting can lead to greater success and performance. Setting goals not only motivates us but can also improve our mental health and our level of personal and professional success.

The Importance and Value of Goal Setting

In a business there is a long-term vision of where the business wants to be and this can be by:

·         Size (number of people employed in the organisation)

·         Be a multinational (in more than one country)

·         Be the top company in your industry

·         By turnover revenue.

All the goals that are set might not be able to be achieved in one year so one option is the chunk these down into yearly goals. When reviewing these at the end of each year you can see how far you are achieving these goals and if you need to make other decision so that you keep on track to achieve these goals.

Smart Goals

When setting these targets, it is not good setting these to something that is impossible to achieve so you could set smart goals.

SMART is an acronym, and these are:

·         Specific (sensible and Simple)

·         Measurable (motivating)

·         Achievable (agreed and attainable)

·         Relevant (Reasonable and realistic)

·         Timely (time based or time limited)

While you are achieving your goals an example would be annual goals it is important to stay focused and check on the progress of these regularly throughout the year.

I would always suggest that your set time aside in your diary to check on these weekly or monthly this way it is always in the front of your mind and the more time you spend on this the more likely you are to achieve these.
